Dunfermline 1-0 Cowdenbeath- Match Report

Husband on the spot

Stephen Husband's second-half penalty secured a vital 1-0 win for Dunfermline against fellow strugglers Cowdenbeath.

The win saw the financially-stricken side move ahead of their opponents on goal difference, leaving Colin Cameron's men in the relegation play-off spot with two games left.

It was the Pars' second successive win and gives them a good chance of avoiding the end-of-year play-offs despite being hit by a 15-point deduction after entering administration.

They had the ball in the net after just five minutes but a linesman's flag ruled out Allan Smith's header.

Ryan Thomson forced a good save out of Thomas Flynn in the 17th minute while Greg Stewart fired straight at Michal Hrivnak at the other end as the teams went in level at the break.

But in the 67th minute Smith was brought down by Kyle Miller in the area and Husband blasted his effort down the middle to secure a vital win for the home side, and consign Cowdenbeath to a fifth defeat in seven games.
