WHERE'S ALL THE FANS?!

Where are they now????
We had everyone from supporters club spokespersons to the chairman calling for an increased turnout as the relegation battle got serious.

We all expected a decent turn out for Saturday's match against Inverness, and why not. 18000 turned up for the Scottish Cup Final, the fans are there, why can't they turn up to support the club in its hour of need?

Daily Record journalist David McCarthy, writing in the paper's Monday The Winner supplement, perhaps summed it up better than I ever could;

"Dunfermline are in danger of tumbling out of the SPL, but who cares? Certainly not the locals if Saturday was anything to go by. They are joint bottom of the division, playing their second last home game of the season on a lovely sunny day against a team that are already looking forward to their holidays because their work is done.

Time then, you would think, for the townfolk to get off their backsides and get along to East End Park to try to provide their struggling players with the lift that might just drag them out of their current mess. The Old Firm weren't even playing, so those who turn their back on the hometown team to support the big two could have come along to swell the crowd. But not a bit of it.

Instead, 4484 people paid their money and when you take into account that probably 700 of them travelled from Inverness, it seems that only 3700 people in Dunfermline really care. This is not a criticism of those who did attend - but others who claim to be Pars fans need to take a good look at themselves.

Their team needs something, anything, to galvanise them and a crowd of 8000 or so making a lot of noise inside that stadium could have worked to their advantage. Instead they walked out of the tunnel at one end to see an entirely empty stand facing them. The atmosphere was funereal and right from the start you knew that any motivation would have to come from within the players themselves."

Hardly good reading is it! If you ask me, we have a pathetic support to match a pathetic management team. No wonder Celtic complained when we asked for 18000 Cup Final tickets. If not even nearly half of those 'fans' who turned up for the Cup Final can bother turning up to support the club in a relegation battle then I'm sorry, the next time a cup final comes around then don't expect to be at the front of the ticket queue!
