Westie westie!

It is sad news indeed that Ian Westwater, Hibernian goalkeeping coach, will have to retire from football coaching due to an ongoing knee problem. Ian will be fondly remembered by Pars fans, as he played between the sticks for many years for Dunfermline. Signed by Jim Leishman from Hearts, a youthful (and hairy!) Westwater joined the Pars in March 1985, and played a great part in Dunfermlines rise from the 2nd division all the way to the Premier league. He will be forgiven for signing for Falkirk in August 1991 as he returned to the Pars in March 1994. He came in to replace Guido Van de Kamp at the end of the 1995-96 season, and was instrumental as the Pars regained their place in the premier league. Westie moved to Hibs in 2000 and was eventually made goalkeeping coach.

A testimonial dinner will be held in the Glen Pavilion on Saturday 11th March 2006, and a testimonial match between the Pars & Hibs will be played subject to permission from the SFA.
