MOTHERWELL v DUNFERMLINE - Match Preview

Last updated : 24 November 2004 By Pars Mad

A Brewster-less Pars this weekend ... oh dear!!!
The Pars travel to Fir Park this week in a must win game in our quest for the top six. After humiliating previous top-six side Kilmarnock the Pars can face Butch’s Brawlers brimming with confidence. It’s almost a bit of a dead cert that the legendary Craig Brewster won’t be making the trip – another mastermind by the Dunfermline board in not offering him a coaching job in the first place – as he’ll more than likely be in the Inverness dug out.

Yorkston seems to be becoming more incompetent each day and his decision making is becoming more and more baffling. Look at some of the blunders he has made – brink of administration, letting Calderwood go, letting Brewster go and of course the biggest blunder of all that is the weekly circus of Hay and Kirkwood.

Pars have failed to win at fir Park in a long long time the last Pars victory at Fir Park came back in 2000 when the infamous David Moss scored the winner early in the second half. Since then the Pars record at Fir Park has been pretty abysmal drawing two and losing three. The last match was wonby a disputed Derek Adams penalty at a time when a fairly depleted Pars side turned out as the Pars were on their road to Hampden – yes it does seem that long ago. The first meeting at Fir Park last season was a wee bit of a thriller. It was an action packed game which saw the Pars waltz into a two-goal lead through the golden duo – yes that does seem like a long time ago – of Brewster and Crawford. Motherwell hit back through Stephen Pearson and a last minute goal from Martyn Corrigan.

To be honest I’ve witnessed a few Pars wins at Fir Park but none can be more memorable than the game in December 96’. The Pars went into the game as underdogs and found themselves two one down at half time. Marc Millar had equalised from the spot after 15 minutes. In what can only be described as Baltic the Pars soon turned the air warm by producing a dynamic fightback with super Andy Smith grabbing a double to seal a 3-2 victory in favour of the Fife side.

One things for sure the Pars will go to fir Park this week with plenty to worry about as Motherwell have hit a bit of form – scoring nine goals without reply in there previous three games. Butcher certainly has a habit of making MINCE MEAT out of opponents, another thing is for sure and that is that the STEAKS are going to be high with both teams fighting for that elusive top six place. A defeat however will probably have Hay STEW-ing for weeks. It will be a MEATY encounter with tackles flying everywhere and the Pars players better watch they don’t end up looking like TURKEY’S as the Motherwell players will be looking to BEEF the game up.

Hay’s starting line up will probably be decided at the last minute and his tactics will probably be decided sometime in the next few weeks but with impressive performances again coming from Labonte and Mehmet you can’t help wondering if they will start again.

A Coronation Street
star was order of the day for Pars last week and I wonder who’ll provide the pre-match entertainment at Motherwell. Maybe they could introduce some big wide-screens and show some Playboy TV mind you in saying that most Lanarkshire ladies will probably have appeared on Playboy TV. Or street corner TV for that matter.

We’ll probably only take a few fans anyway but for those of you willing to travel please be extra secure in carrying valuables. Make sure your cars are locked and alarmed and also make sure that you wear trousers with zips. But if you do go be sure to get behind the boys and spur them onto victory and I don’t mean get behind Will Young style.
