DUNFERMLINE v ABERDEEN - Match Preview

Ready for Saturday Jimmy?
Its the one we've been waiting for!

The day when all Pars fans can finally let messrs Calderwood and Nicholl know exactly what they think of their - hasty - move up north to Aberdeen.

The men who, just days after the club's biggest game in many years, had it away on their toes in order to join the Willie Miller revolution at Pittodrie. A move that, some people say, was arranged in the days and weeks leading up to the Scottish Cup final. After almost five years at the club, Calderwood left East End Park without so much as a goodbye. Suffice to say Pars fans have not taken this lightly!

At this point it is worth noting that Jimmy Calderwood was without doubt one of the best managers in the club's long and distinguished history. Taking the Pars from second in the First Divison to 4th spot in the SPL, their first Scottish Cup final in over thirty years, and to the brink of a European campaign, Calderwood's achievements at the Pars should not be forgotten.
However it is these marvellous achievements at the club that makes it all the harder for Pars fans to understand their former manager's apparent lack of ambition. By leaving the club with his ambitions unfulfilled and without much hesitation, the whole debacle has left a somewhat bitter taste in the mouths of many Pars fans.

Instead of choosing to reflect on the positive times at East End and thank the club and the fans for alot of good memories, Calderwood chose to criticise the club's support and their consistent failure to turn out in numbers to support the team.
Cheers Jimmy! Nevermind thanking the Pars fans that turned up week in, week out, come rain, shine, sleet or snow, those that forked out hundreds - if not thousands - of pounds following the team up to Aberdeen, down to Kilmarnock and all over the country week after week without fail. It's nice to know our support isn't appreciated!

Since his move up north, the anger and bad feeling has been forever building all in time for the match this weekend. Pars chairman John Yorkston and Calderwood - despite claiming that he doesn't conduct his business throught the papers - have fired various verbal shots at each other, each claiming to be the good guy in this whole torrid affair. This culminated in the two having a stand up row in the Pittodrie boardroom at last Sunday's game against Caley Thistle, with Calderwood apparantely furious with Yorkston for suggesting he 'did the dirty' on Dunfermline.

This makes this Saturday's fixture all the more interesting. An Aberdeen side on the back of two very decent draws travel to East End Park to face a Pars side desperate for their first win of the season. Something's got to give.

Calderwood's achievements at East End Park in his five years in charge should have meant he would be coming back to a hero's welcome on Saturday, however with the events of his last few days at the Pars still very fresh in the mind it would be fair to say that his welcome will be anything but a hero's one!!!

COME ON YE PARS!!!
