'Nipper' - as he's known at the club - is without a doubt one of the most gifted players at the club, possessing a great deal of skill and intelligence.
The captain's various qualities have however led to some debate over what his best position is, he thinks midfield, others think defence.
Originally signed as a striker he was soon moved back into midfield before securing a place in defence.
Thomson's composure on the ball has meant he has often been used as sweeper aswell as in front of the back four/five where his ability to drive at the opposition defence has frequently caused problems for opposing teams.
Although he suffered an injury-ravaged season last term it is hoped that the skipper has finally put the worst of his injury problems behind him.
